The RBA is responsible for making monetary policy and in determining the cash rate is influenced a number of factors: current interest rates, the relationship between lenders and borrowers, inflation rate targets, value of $AUD, imports and exports, and the general strength of the economy. Sharon and Phil discuss how the RBA cash rate can influence the ability of a mortgage holder to service their debt and note that interest rates are extremely low at the moment, meaning the only way is up.
