#029 Kateryna Bakay shares her career journey from Physical Therapist to Cash Based Pilates Business owner. Alternative career change to Pilates Cash Business.
“Physical therapy can be whatever you can build it to be. I think it's one of those fields that's not limited to only working in orthopedics or neuro and what not… It’s actually a very interesting field.”
Kateryna Bakay, originally from Ukraine, moved to the US 23 years ago and now owns her own orthopedic practice in Seattle, Washington. Her journey began as a PT assistant, but she pursued a career in Physical Therapy and eventually landed a job at Boeing, overseeing work hardening and conditioning programs for injured employees. However, she grew frustrated with the high rate of employee injuries and decided to transition to a small orthopedic practice, where she worked closely with upper extremity surgeons and occupational therapists. She then had the opportunity to work at an orthopedic clinic with Pilates equipment, which aligned with her holistic approach to therapy. Kateryna fell in love with the method and gained experience while the clinic supported her Pilates certification. Inspired to provide care on her terms, she eventually started her own practice, facing challenges with marketing, accounting, and insurance. Despite the hurdles, she adapted and transitioned to a cash-based model, enabling faster and more efficient care. Kateryna emphasized the importance of hard work, continuous learning, and seeking support when needed, recognizing the potential value of hiring a coach to scale her practice.
