Many of us have been taught (explicit or implicitly…) to “control yourself” to “ look at the bright side” to “ stay positive” to “ don’t be so dramatic” , to “toughen up” and much much more.
The consequence of all this well meant ‘ rules’ is that we are not always able anymore to feel, but even more importantly to connect with other people when emotions are there.
And we all see in today’s world what happens when there is no connection anymore.
Emotions are crucial parts of being human, and emotions form THE doorway to true connection. Between authentic and real human beings.
Allowing emotions (the highs and the lows, the painful and the pleasant ones, ALL of them) into our lives brings so much and is crucial for living a full-filling life.
So yes as a leader, working with your emotions is one of the most important skills you can focus on.
