Guest BIO: Iryna Kompanets is a Ukrainian academic, research fellow, and mother who fled with her daughter Hanna on March 4, 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. She plans to return to Ukraine to aid in its rebuilding once the war concludes. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Iryna earned her PhD in Biochemistry from Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv. She has previously served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at her alma mater and as a Docent at the university. Currently, Iryna is a Research Fellow at Ruhr University of Bochum, a public research university located in the southern hills of the central Ruhr area in Germany.
