I had a big AHA! moment this past week as I was panicking about a wound on my thumb which I feared was infected. It hurt! Surely there must be something wrong, I thought, it's been days. Then it hit me, it can hurt when it's healing. My wound was fine, it wasn't infected, it is normal for there to be pain when something is healing. That struck me because I realized that the same can be said for emotional wounds, healing of the past, or changing ways of being that no longer suit us. The transmutation that occurs within us, just as happens with the skin on our bodies when we get cut, can cause pain when it is changing to allow for recovery.

On this Identify & Heal solo episode I share this story of a physical hurt I incurred (and dip into the spiritual meaning behind repeated similar injuries) and offer some reasons I believe that healing can hurt, how pain is actually a positive sign that transformation is happening, and how if we push through the pain and allow our wounds to heal we will find ourselves stepping into that Divine Feminine power.

Overwhelm is a word that has come up a lot this week, for myself and clients, so I thought it would be the perfect topic for this week's solo episode! It got me thinking about the difference between overwhelm and full on burn out/breakdown and if there is a way to prevent both. My take is that overwhelm is inevitable and burn-out/breakdowns can be prevented. I talk about the latter in this episode yet mostly I focus on navigating overwhelm; preventative measures and tips to maneuver through it. On this solo episode I explain that when I say overwhelm I'm referring to the state where you can feel the cortisol (stress hormone) running through your body and find yourself having trouble remaining calm, civil, and not snapping or straight up yelling at others. It's a natural response to being pushed to your limit and having too much stress yet it's still important to understand and know how to work through. I give examples of my past week that led me into overwhelm and a client's account of managing 2 sick children under 2 and rightfully facing overwhelm as well. TV on or podcast playing on your phone while you go about chores? Many of us are more comfortable with vibrancy rather than stillness. It can feel too quiet which can sometimes feel lonely. These are normal preferences, neither right nor wrong. Yet is it possible to become a bit dependent on noise, movement, possibly chaos & even dysfunction to feel agreeable? The world within us vibrates at the same frequency as the world around us. If we became accustomed at an early age to being in a household with a lot of yelling fighting, chaos and dysfunction, that could become the state that we feel most comfortable within. On this episode I explore the concept of being addicted to chaos and dysfunction. This can mean not feeling comfortable in a relationship unless it's very tumultuous, toxic, or intense. Or always finding yourself in friendships and work environments with a lot of drama or instability. Essentially this comes down to feeling more at home with a nervous system that is dysregulated rather than a regulated system. It is possible to begin to shift into a more stable, peaceful baseline and enjoy healthy relationships and home life. Ok so hear me out here, this topic may sound odd yet this theme came up a few times times in the past week. Once in session with a client and again at Women's group on Wednesday. Women expressing their concern that perhaps certain tendencies indicated that they, themselves, could potentially have narcissistic traits. And yes, Narcissism is an overused & oversaturate term presently yet it DOES exist and it is NOT the same as being overly self concerned due to early life trauma. That's my take and I wanted to share it. On this solo episode I offer my thoughts on why many Women come to be hyper self focused and preoccupied with self preservation as a survival technique resulting from traumatic events. We can come to believe that other's feelings, actions, and moods are due to us because that was the fear we had when our environment as a child was unpredictable & unstable. Or if we overly worry about things working out for us, it's because we've been hurt in the past, not because we're selfish. This and more is discussed and of course an oracle card pull. At seven this week's guest, Rikki West, begged a mysterious God for help, praying that her drunk father won’t harm their family and that he won’t be sent to hell.
