#113 HANNAH HALVORSEN REBOUNDS FROM HORRIFIC ACCIDENT TO WORLD CUP SKIER

We Are Superman

Hannah Halvorsen, a 22-year old from Truckee, CA, had just earned her way onto the World Cup skiing circuit when she was hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk in downtown Anchorage in November, 2019. She suffered serious injuries, including a broken tibia, her MCL and PCL were torn away from the bone, plus skull fractures and severe brain injuries that caused a temporary loss of vision, taste, and smell. After surgeries and a long, arduous rehab process, Hannah has incredibly already returned to the World Cup circuit, and in a race this December in Dresden, Germany scored her first-ever World Cup points.
What struck me about Hannah is her attitude. For one thing, she literally has a broad smile in every photo, whether she was digging deep doing rehab exercises or at the end of a race where most of us are looking like we are about to die. You’ll hear more about how this young woman feels gratitude with every step she has taken. She has also been an outspoken advocate in addressing body image issues that many people feel, not just limited to skiers who paradoxically have to build tremendous strength to succeed in their sport, yet wear skintight kits.
