Welcome to Tigers in 20’s Game Balls, a GoTigers247 audio podcast.

Listen in as we hand out game balls to the top performing athletes from the previous week and get their insight into the game.

In the first episode we present game balls to redshirt sophomore running back Jeyvon Ducker and redshirt senior defensive end Jaylon Allen. Jeyvon Ducker, in his first action for the Tigers, carried the ball five times for 63 yards and one touchdown. Jaylon Allen led the Tiger defense with 12 tackles, 5 solo, and one sack.

In the first segment, we talk with Jeyvon Ducker. He talks about stepping onto the field for the first time as a Tiger and the excitement he felt. We start the conversation with discussing his emergence on the two-deep depth chart. Jeyvon was injured the majority of spring workouts so he shared how he used that time to not only recover from his injury, but become a student of the Memphis playbook. He talked about how the coaches value consistency and he feels confident in his ability to provide that for the team. We then transition to talking about his 50-yard touchdown run in the second half and how the play unfolded. Jeyvon shares with us how the knock on his running ability has been his speed, but he shares how crafty of a runner he can be and how he uses his vision and brains to make plays. We end the segment with Jeyvon sharing a message to Tiger fans that are feeling sour after an opening week loss to Mississippi State.

In the second segment, Jaylon Allen joins GoTigers247 and receives the game ball for the defense. Jaylon shares how disappointed he was in how the Tiger defense played against Mississippi State, but is proud of the resolve the guys showed by not turning on each other during the rough loss. He highlights two areas where the Tigers' defense will need to improve: improving on missed opportunities and, obviously, tackling. He diagnosed the issues with tackling as too many of the guys losing leverage against their opponents. His description of "Losing Leverage" was really insightful and he shares how important fixing that issue is going to be against Navy. He shares how important the defensive line play will need to be against Navy this week, and how he feels confident with their preparation. Jaylon ends the show encouraging Tiger fans to not give up the team because they haven't given up on themselves.
