Detesting being put in a box, she has dedicated her life to kicking down the sides of the box and speaking and giving voice to the hurts and slights suffered by so many throughout history. Dr. Alexander feels blessed to have had a seat at so many tables, and advises others to get themselves into spaces where they can be seen and heard, and thus have more impact. G. Rumay Alexander, EdD, RN, FAAN is a professor in the School of Nursing, Assistant Dean of Relational Excellence at the Adams School of Dentistry, and formerly the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion/Chief Diversity Officer of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In February of 2021, she became the American Nurses Association’s Scholar-In-Residence and advises the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing. Dr. Alexander is the Senior Vice President for Clinical and Professional Services at the Tennessee Hospital Association and their first vice president of color for two decades. As one of nursing’s prominent thought leaders, guiding individuals in academic, corporate, health care and religious organizations in the exploration of marginalizing processes and lived experiences of difference, Dr. Alexander's expertise has and continues to be frequently sought. She has been appointed to several transformative healthcare initiatives addressing diversity, equity and inclusion including the Commission of Workforce for Hospitals and Health Systems of the American Hospital Association (over 500,000 copies of the report have been distributed nationally and internationally), the Tri-Council of Nursing, and the National Quality Forum’s steering committee which developed the first national voluntary consensus standards for nursing-sensitive care. ----------- Contact Nurse Keith about holistic career coaching to elevate your nursing and healthcare career at NurseKeith.com . On episode 481 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Jean Ross, MHA, BSN, RN, the co-founder of Primary Record, a nurse-designed app that helps families organize and collaboratively share their family’s health information across multiple platforms and electronic medical record systems. It's a medical record jungle out there, and Primary Record is Ms. Ross's answer to the growing confusion. In the course of their conversation, Keith and Jean discuss the trends in healthcare that have led to us navigating the multitude of online patient portals and repositories of information that can make caring for ourselves and our loved ones a complicated and frustrating task. Her passion centers on supporting the family around complex patients who are instrumental in carrying out the plan of care in the home. On episode 478 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith welcomes back Dr. Annie DePasquale of CollaboratingDocs.com. This time, Keith and Dr. Annie discuss the hottest trends in nurse practitioner career paths, especially for cash-based business endeavors like medical aesthetics, weight loss, IV hydration and vitamin infusions, telepsychiatry, and concierge medicine. Many NPs are wanting more freedom from the healthcare system rat race, and cash-based private practices are one way to circumvent the slog that so many NPs are encountering when working in the mainstream medical system. Dr. Annie DePasquale, MD is a Board-certified Family Medicine physician who first-hand saw an unmet need for her NP colleagues who need a supervising physician to practice independently. Dr. DePasquale studied piano & French as an Undergrad at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and completing her Facility Medicine Residency program at Georgetown University in Washington DC. She taught for the Teach America program in Baltimore, MD and worked for Federally Qualified Health Centers in Washington, DC, Medford, OR & Lynchburg, VA. In 2020, Dr. Annie DePasquale founded Collaborating Docs when she realized how hard it is for NPs to find a collaborating physician. The hoops that nurse practitioners have to jump through to start practicing are too exhausting for anyone to handle alone. Dr. DePasquale benefited greatly from the mentorship of NPs throughout her career, especially when she was a green new grad, so she is very committed to giving back to the community that helped her so much. Along with her team, Dr. DePasquale's mission is to make it easy for NPs to help more patients by having the freedom of choice. Collaborating Docs has helped over 4000 NPs match with collaborating physicians. On episode 468 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Annie Fulton, BSN, RN, PCCN. Annie is a nurse and podcaster who is an avowed believer in the potential for nurses to use strategic content creation as an avenue to manifest a bold new career direction, create a robust and satisfying side hustle, or empower their current clinical practice and career mobility. One of the points Annie makes during the interview is that her educational podcast for nurses directly contributed to her employer giving her a promotion to Clinical Nurse III (and a significant raise) since they considered every episode an official publication. Annie has been a nurse since 2014 with experience in medical-oncology, emergency, and intermediate care units. She believes that if she still has questions nine years out into her career, other nurses do, too. She uses her podcast as a safe environment to address common nursing questions and pitfalls. Annie is also a wife and proud mother of a wonderfully silly seven-year-old boy. In her free time she enjoys traveling, working out, reading, and cooking.
