In the NINTH episode of the HARDER SHAFT podcast we discuss KINK & FETISH with co host Dic Savvy.
There are many types of "kinks," When it comes to sexual activity, this is normally something that is deemed outside of mainstream. A kink usually adds extra erotic energy to a sexual interaction (think: BDSM, role play or polyamory).
However, it's important to remember that kink is a matter of taste. While your mother-in-law may find sex toys sexy, your best friend thinks they're just plain boring.
Something that must be present in order for the individual who has it to feel sexually aroused or satisfied by it is known as a "fetish." Having intercourse in public, for example, is one example of this (like feet). In this case, the key point to keep in mind is that a fetish is something that a person cannot get aroused by without. While thinking about a fetish may be sufficient for some, others may require real interaction with the object or behaviour in question.
What, exactly, is the distinction between kink and fetish?
The terms "kink" and "fetish" are often used interchangeably, which is why we can see the muddle. Doctor Torrisi describes the distinction as one between what a person enjoys doing and what a person is forced to do in order to have sexual pleasure.
Here's an example: if you hear your neighbours fighting while you're in bed and it gets you excited, that's kinky. There are certain people, though, who have a penchant for listening or watching other people engage in sex in order to become excited.
What are the safest ways to experiment with kinks and fetishes?
When it comes to quirks and fetishes, the importance of permission and safety preparedness. You'll need to acquire a trustworthy accomplice and conduct thorough study in order to succeed (like learning how to properly tie a knot, for example). Keep in mind the acronym RACK, which stands for "risk-aware consensual kink," not a fetish. In the kink world, it's a term used to ensure that all parties feel safe and comfortable.
There are many excellent materials available from those in the field of kink and fetishism. To find items, educators, research, and joining a group to learn about safe ways to explore kink and fetishism is very crucial.
