“Abraham Standing Before God”
Pastor Hiroyuki Anjiki
1. Abraham, who was called a “friend of God”
* What was the reason that God told Abraham what it was that He was planning to do?
(1) Because of the covenant with Abraham
(2) Because of the relationship with Abraham
“Friend of God”: 2 Chronicles 20:7, Isaiah 41:8, James 2:23
* What was the “sin of Sodom and Gomorrah?”
Jude 7 “In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.”
Ezekiel 16:49 “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.” (NIV)
2. Abraham, who fulfilled his duties as a priest
* Genesis 18:23 “approached” = taking a posture of worship
3. Abraham, who is an example for us
* Genesis 18:22 (NLT) “The Lord remained with Abraham”
* Isaiah 59:16 “He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him.” (NIV)
* Ezekiel 22:30 “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” (NIV)
* 2 Chronicles 16:9 “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.” (NIV)
* Romans 8:34 “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” (NIV)
* Ephesians 6:18 “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (NIV)
Thoughts to share at mini church:
1. Think of three people for whom you would like to see come to faith in Christ and be saved this year and make intercessory prayer for them.
