LIFE APPLICATION NOTES The success of Joseph is defined by the presence of the Lord in his life. The model of success given by Jesus is radically different than that of the world. The Lord wants to bless people through us. Matthew 5-7; John 13:35. Satan wants to destroy people through us. John 10:10; Philippians 2:14-16. Joseph would rather go to prison on false charges than sin against God. 1 Cor 10:13. Being neglected and underappreciated never justifies sin. James 1:13-16. A follower of Jesus knows who to run from and who to run to. Suffering and abuse come in many forms: - Hateful and jealous family members (Joseph’s brothers). - Human traffickers (Israeli, Ishmaelite, Midianies, Egyptian, Islamic, or the Epsteinite). - Perverse and egotistical people (Potiphar’s wife). By the love and sovereignty of God, our suffering is never wasted. Romans 5:1-5; 8:28-29; Revelation 5:8; 8:3-4. - James 1:2-4, “2 Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
