Anel is a first generation Mexican American. She is a mother of two, Israel age 7 and Micaela age 5. She comes from a very tight knit extended family and grew up along side her tíos, tías, and cousins. Her mom and dad migrated to the US from La Trinidad, San Luis Potosí, Mexico in 1979 and had her in 1980. Anel is very grateful and aware of her privilege as a Mexican American having the opportunity to be raised both in Mexico and the US. She would go to school in the US and spend her summers in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. She had the best of both worlds thanks to her parents. Anel went on to pursue her Bachelors in Child and Family Development and has worked in the Mental Health field for over 10 years. Like many individuals, Anel and her family went through a great loss in 2020. Her father passed away on May 5, 2020 from a sudden septic infection. She is here today to share her grieving journey in hopes to help others navigate their loss through her story, perspective and experience. She also touches on how we can help our children understand death. And how we can support someone who is grieving.
