Michael Juergens is a super wine geek who started the Kingdom of Bhutan's wine industry from scratch, something that hasn't been done in the world in 200 years, after discovering in 2016 that the country had no vineyards.
His company, Bhutan Wine Company, currently has approximately 200 acres of vineyards, growing 16 different grape varietals—nine red and seven white—spread across nine sites in Bhutan. Their first grape harvest for wine production will occur in Summer/Fall 2024.
Michael has spent 25+ years reading, studying, and traveling to wine regions across the world, meeting the people and drinking the wine, and generally being obsessed with wine.
He is also the best-selling author of several wine books, including the game-changing Drinking & Knowing Things series adapted from his widely popular Drinking and Knowing Things blog, which provides a wealth of wine knowledge, including wine recommendations.
