Episode 21: The Breath of Color with Leslie Nesbitt of Rhythmic Walls Decorative Painting
Manage episode 310542935 series 3060299
In this episode, Sherry interviews her colleague Leslie Nesbitt of Rhythmic Walls about the powerful use of color in the home and how it affects us all. Color is a powerful tool that should be respected within our environments.
As a former executive of a nationally recognized women’s organization, Leslie discovered her latent artistic talent while engaging in home decorating projects as a respite from the hectic demands of her fulltime career. As she set about transforming her family’s home into an individual bastion of color, texture and style, she became instantly hooked and fascinated with decorative finishing and how it can dramatically transform interior spaces. Her passion led her to start taking decorative painting classes and to become professionally trained and certified in the application of exquisite surface design. However, it was the response from others that pushed her to stretch beyond the canvas of her home to expand outward, and soon she began painting for family and friends. Unable to focus on anything else and uninspired by her day job, with the help and encouragement of her husband, Leslie set up shop in the sunroom of her home, launching Rhythmic Walls (RW) Decorative Painting and Design Studio in 2003.
In the years since the launch of RW, Leslie has created a thriving business and established a loyal and solid clientele. She has worked on scores of commercial and residential projects. Her work has been featured on HGTV and in local and national publications. Leslie’s achievements as a successful businesswoman have gained her national acclaim and in 2005, she received the coveted National Women’s Business Center’s Capital Award, from Wachovia Bank. The receipt of the award positioned her to expand her company’s capabilities. In 2009, her artistic accomplishments were acknowledged by fellow artisans and she was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the International Decorative Painting Artisans League (IDAL), the professional trade association for decorative painter, surface artists and designers. Leslie is the first African American to have held this position. As the owner and creative director, Leslie’s focus is on creating cutting edge designs, techniques and products, while overseeing and managing sales and quality control.vLeslie’s rhythm and flow for putting together the unexpected is poetic.
