We sat down with the extraordinary Amanda Lees for an insightful conversation about her remarkable life journey and prolific writing career.
Born in Hong Kong, Amanda's upbringing was anything but conventional, navigating through a convent boarding school and a Jesuit boys’ school before embarking on a path fueled by her parents' adventurous spirits. Her father, a former Gurkha Intelligence officer and Oxford-educated spy, and her mother, who ran a hospital in the Borneo jungle, instilled in her a thirst for exploration and daring endeavors.
With a degree in drama, Amanda kicked off her television career in a memorable role as a member of the Communist Resistance in 'Allo 'Allo, showcasing her talent for drama and comedy alike.
Her literary prowess shines through in her latest nonfiction work, "From Aconite to the Zodiac Killer: The Dictionary of Crime," garnering rave reviews upon its release in July 2020 by Robinson/Little Brown, later followed by a Ulysses Press publication in the US in May 2021.
Delving into the realm of fiction, Amanda has captivated readers with her gripping WW2 spy thriller series. "The Silence Before Dawn," "Paris At First Light," and "The Midwife's Child" have all soared to the top of bestseller lists, weaving intricate tales of espionage and intrigue against the backdrop of wartime Europe. Her latest installment, "The Paris Spy's Girl," continues to enthrall audiences with its gripping narrative and rich historical detail.
