Over the next few chapters, we will see Joseph and his brothers reunited. There will be reconciliation between them but it will not be instant. True reconciliation requires sincere repentance and humble confession of sin. A heart must be right with God before it can be right with other men. Superficial lip service, shallow repentance will only bring a fragile, short-lived truce.

Joseph will treat his brothers roughly. So much so that it could be misunderstood. But remember, Joseph has completely forgiven his brothers. He is a man that holds no grudges. Joseph treats his brothers with love, patience and wisdom in order that they would come to true repentance. Reconciliation is not possible apart from true repentance.

As we go through this, remember that we have been reconciled to God through Jesus.
