I notice that she looks just the slightest bit nervous as she watches me. I have to hide a smile. She mentioned to me a few weeks ago that she believes in ghosts, and the story I just told her seems to have had an effect on her.
I wasn’t lying when I told her it is a true story, or at least a story that I’ve been told is true. Anyone who grew up in the general area of Arcadian Heights heard it as a kid. I imagine that it’s been circulating since the carousel was broken down in Chicago and brought over here to its current home.
It’s absurd, of course. Just a story that kids told their friends to frighten them.
