In this installment of The Tonepot Podcast we sit down with the punk rock band, MOONRAKER from Los Angeles, California. These guys are legitimately one of my favorite bands right now & it was a true pleasure to sit down and talk tone! EPISODE OVERVEIW: Love Buzzballs? Hate pedalboards? This episode is for you! Wrapping up our season, we got MOONRAKER, from Los Angeles, California. These guys always make a super fun time, and it was great shooting the shit on gear. We can gloss over the coffee for Buzz Balls today! Right into the love of big amps moving air & a blatant disdain for pedalboards in punk rock. Moonraker started way back in 2011, solidifying the current style in 2014. The dudes got into music super young. Matt's father played guitar, and he had an older brother showing him the classics (Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy, etc.). Nick was first intrigued by music with bands like Queen and the soundtrack for 'The Big Chill', of course. Seeing the school band early on, Nick picked the up saxophone and later percussion. David's mother was a choir directed, keeping music flowing in the house getting him into drums at 9 years old. heavily influenced by Animal from the Muppets and the film 'That Thing You Do!' he found Dookie and never looked back. Digging into first instruments that lit the fire, Matt got an early Japanese Squier Stratocaster, Nick started out with a K-Mart acoustic before getting a Johnson bass at a yard sale, & David with a sunlight kit. We got into the live rig gear, tracking with Chris Collier here in Las Vegas and more fun stuff like getting robbed in Mexico! Check out the full episode for all the treats!…

In this episode we get to talk tones with the LA based guitarist, Dony Gil. Dony plays guitar in the Los Angeles hardcore band YOKAI and also sings with ska-core outfit Mafia Rusa! We hit on several rigs of past and present and chat in depth about some of Dony's favorite guitars. EPISODE OVERVIEW: My old pal Dony Gil chats with us about his road to tone town! He started getting into guitar at young age with punk rock bands like The Casualties leading to bands like Bad Brains and Minor Threat. And boy does Dony like guitars! We get into his top 3 guitars, including the mods that were done to them. We talk a bit about the past guitars and amplifiers that started the journey of guitar playing. Of course, we get into the current versions of his everchanging rig, with a main tone consisting of a Victory amps Kraken. Make sure you check out Dony's tone yourself! You can find YOKAI and MAFIA RUSA! on all your favorite streaming services. Presented by Peartree Guitarworks Hosted by Adam Pero Lighting by WZRD Editing by Jesse Magana…

We're back at it with a BASS EPISODE! This month we sit with Austin Tegtmeier of H.A.L.T. & Species. Austin has been a bass fixture in the Las Vegas music scene for over a decade and clocked some serious road time playing bass in the punk, ska, & hardcore community. Let's get gritty and dive into the "low" end of bass tone! EPISODE OVERVIEW: We can start this one out with the caffeine of choice. Our buddy Austin isn't much of a coffee drinker, but instead prefers energy drinks. Namely Rockstar Energy Drinks, who originated in Las Vegas, NV! We touch on the first bass Austin owned (a Spector 5 string) and the need to fill a low-end void when all the kids what to play guitar and drums. It's clear that coming up on bands like Rage Against the Machine and Red-Hot Chili Peppers has instilled a great funk foundation and firm understanding of groove in his bass playing. Instruments fluctuated from the Spector to Jazz and Percision basses before finding his home with Reverend Guitars, playing the Decision bass models. The rig of choice for live & recording is the Reverend basses through a Darkglass preamp, with the special sauce being a 1980's Gallien Kreuger head. Alwas through the refrigerator 8x10 Ampeg SVT cabs. Tune in for more about his time spent recording with Jay Maas in Boston, falling back into active basses, approaches to playing bass in different projects, hot tone takes, and the new projects cooking!…
