Coordinator of ThinkChina, Casper Wichmann interviews Jørgen Delman, Professor Emeritus of China Studies, Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen, about the upcoming 20th Party Congress which will begin October 16th in Beijing.
Delegates from all over the country will gather in the Great Hall of the People and it is at this assembly Xi Jinping is expected to be re-elected for a third term as General Secretary. To people unfamiliar with Chinese politics, it might seem strange that the congress of a political party can have such an influence on domestic politics, and indeed the world. This podcast will therefore equip you will all the relevant information on the upcoming Party Congress.
The National Congress marks a change in the top leadership of the CPC. The only two who were not replaced at the last National Congress were Premier Li Keqiang and Xi Jinping himself. Delman and Wichmann discusses the men who currently occupy the 7 seats of the Politburo Standing Committee, and who we can expect to stay in their positions besides perhaps Xi?
Finally they cover Xi Jinping and his coming third term and the future in a changing global world.
