John Eyres spoke to us about sneaking into the theatre as a kid in Manchester, working with his son Paul Eyres on the film "Fairytale" and employing optimism and British humor when telling tragic stories.

John’s son, film producer Paul Eyres proudly recounts seeing his father go from delivering bread for a living to opening a store which would turn into the biggest film provider in Wales.

Guest host Rod Smith, Senior Executive at 108 Media, shared his own experience working his way up in the film industry starting in VHS and DVD retail.

Find out what John and our host and the Godmother of Indie film, Rose Ganguzza think of Rotten Tomatoes, whether it is more important to make money from your movie or to get critical reviews, the dominance of the North American versus the International film market and how the independent film industry has evolved over time.

John spoke in depth about his upcoming film “Fairytale,” starring our host Colin O’Donghue, John Belushi & Archie Panjabi; the story of an Irish comedian in New York who falls in love with an American bartender. He is consulting with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Donovan for the film’s music!

“Matchstick Man” is the true story of Johnny Owen, a boxer who kept fighting despite being ridiculed constantly for his unusual build. While both stories involve tragedy, John is confident that viewers will not leave feeling morose.

Why does John believe that naivete can be a weapon for creatives? Why did Mike Tyson visit Johnny Owen’s (the Matchstick Man’s) grave?
