What IS Ancestor Work? In many cultures Ancestor Work is related to the belief that the dead have a continued existence and possess the ability to influence the fortune -- or misfortune -- of the living. It is a form of Spirit work, covering a broad range of altar work, prayers, and spell casting in many traditions in which pratitioners seek the aid of their familial ancestors for assistance. They are often commemorated and venerated on a home altar, with photographs or personal mementos to link to their spirits based on love and respect for the deceased. Ancestor worship crosses the boundaries of religious traditions, geographical regions, and socioeconomic groups.
