In LUCE, Octavia Spencer plays a rigid high school teacher who suspects her star pupil isn't what he seems. When she confronts his parents, played by Naomi Watts and Tim Roth, she unleashes a rupture on the fault lines of race, gender and class. Writer JC Lee released LUCE as an off-Broadway play in 2013; the film adaptation, adapted by Lee and Julius Onah, is released August 2.
