My guest today is Shane Spraggs.

Shane Spraggs' resume is chocked full of accomplishments from co-founding and acting as COO of Acro Media a web development company that earned a Mid-Sized Company of the Year award from the local Chamber of Commerce in 2007. Overseeing studio operations at Disney Interactive, Serving as VP of Product at Minga, now a successful social platform across many Canadian schools. And, More recently, Shane worked as the Director of Operations at Komixstream, a startup bringing interactive comic books to the mobile platform.

Shane joined Virtira in early 2020 to challenge and scale its operational capabilities, strengthen team building and implement more robust Lean/Agile methodologies. As COO, he transformed all solution and practice areas, Operations, HR, IT, and the PMO.

More recently, Shane’s vast experience in project management, entrepreneurship, and team leadership has made him an in-demand speaker on productivity and engagement.

Shane lives in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia with his wife, two daughters, and two cats: Pancake and Bagel. (I love the breakfast theme)
Here are the first 5 takeaways from the show:

1. Motivation is actually intrinsic and powered by autonomy, competency, and relatedness

2. You can build relatedness and focus on relatedness as opposed to social, then you can build a team that never has to meet in person.

3. Team building activities It helps to have someone or a piece of software to facilitate. Have a topic or theme to talk through or a game. Icebreakers can be used by taking the first 5 to 10 minutes to share something simple about themselves or play a quick game.

4. Work isn’t about having a strong social relationship with someone, it’s about having enough of a relationship with them that you can trust them. So when you feel like someone is competent and you have a relationship with them you can begin to trust them.

5. Having autonomy, competency to do the work you are assigned and relatedness to your team or co-workers are also connected to preventing burnout.
