Taking ‘Old Man’ Roles Suits John Lithgow Just Fine

Later this year John Lithgow will celebrate his 79th birthday, so there’s a certain sense of irony in the fact that he’s now starring on a show called The Old Man. (To add to the irony, he doesn’t play the “old man” referenced in the show’s title — that distinction belongs to Jeff Bridges.) On the show, Lithgow plays an FBI director with past ties to Bridges’s character as they play a cat-and-mouse game following a shooting. Lithgow is a big fan of the role, and he acknowledges it’s the kind of interesting role he may not have been able to get when he was younger. (Click on the media bar below to hear John Lithgow)

The Old Man airs Thursday nights on FX and is currently streaming on Hulu.
