Be silent if your words could damage a friendship, a lot of friendships get damaged by words because people just say words without thinking how it will affect the next person. If you think those words that you want to say were going to be bad if you were the one receiving them then remain silent. A meaningful silence is always better than meaningless words, silence is always beautiful as it will help you to avoid getting yourself into trouble.
