Thomas Heuser has been the Music Director and Conductor of the San Juan Symphony since 2016, a regional orchestra bringing professional high caliber music and concerts to our area as well as collaborations with other community organizations. They also support music education with a junior orchestra and youth orchestra providing many opportunities for youth development in orchestra music. After merging earlier this year with the Third Avenue Arts, the Symphony has begun a new series called Beyond the Concert Hall and is debuting the San Juan Symphony String Quartet which will be performing works by many diverse composers including 20th century women and Native American composers as well as traditional works by Beethoven. SJS String Quartet includes Concertmaster Lauren Avery, Principal Second Violin Tennille Taylor, Principal Viola Karl Winkler, and Principal Cello Dr. Katherine Jetter. Audience members can mingle after the performance with the musicians in a casual reception. The performance schedule is Friday January 19 at 7:00 pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Durango, Co and Saturday January 20th at 2:00 pm at the Connie Gotsch Theatre at San Juan College in Farmington, NM. The Symphony continues with the second half of its 38th season called New Horizons with the full orchestra performances at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO and the Henderson Fine Arts Center at San Juan College in Farmington, NM.
