Day...to honor the many brilliant women who contributed to the rock genre and caused giant waves in the world of music. These women paved the way for future generations by breaking into a very male-dominated space! From famous solo artists like Grace Slick, Tina Turner and Janis Joplin to female rock bands like The Runaways. why january 3rd? On January 3, 1987, Aretha Franklin, famously called the queen of soul, became the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Women Rock! Day has been celebrated on every anniversary of this event since then. there are several memoirs and documentaries available about famous women in rock...or perhaps make a donation to a local charity that helps buy musical instruments for underprivileged kids or support an organization that offers scholarships and helps send young women to music schools such as The Juilliard School, Berklee College of Music.
