In this podcast, we explore sustainable and ethical investing in the shares of overseas based companies. An allocation to these ‘international shares’ is an important part of most long-term investors’ diversified portfolios. However, investing internationally brings additional challenges for all investors and particularly ethical investors. So, it can pay to learn more about this subject. Rodger discusses this subject with Pablo Berrutti, a Sydney based Portfolio Specialist with Stewart Investors. Pablo is a highly regarded leader in the sustainable investment field. He is the former Chair and a director of the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia (RIAA) – a role in which Rodger was fortunate to work together with Pablo for many years in his capacity as a director of RIAA. In this podcast we explore how investing in private markets can potentially increase financial returns and increase environmental and social impact. Most New Zealand investors are familiar with investing via managed funds in the shares of companies listed on the New Zealand, Australian or international share markets and the debt or fixed interest of companies. But most aren't familiar with investing via managed funds into specialist private market investments, the shares and debt issued by privately owned non-listed companies, as opposed to publicly listed companies. Rodger explores this subject with Cameron Brownjohn CEO of Federation Asset Management. Federation has created a fund for retail investors to access private markets. Please note that Money Matters is not endorsing or recommending the fund or strategy; you are encouraged to consult with a qualified financial advisor before making any investment decisions. In our third podcast we explore the subject of inner development. Taking this deeper view is essential for businesses wanting to be ethical and sustainable, as recognised by global initiatives such as the Inner Development Goals (IDGs). Wise investors want to see evidence of inner development in the leadership development that occurs within the businesses they are considering investing in. These investors might also want to apply these inner development approaches themselves. To discuss the subject, I’m joined by Ashley Wain. Ash is a world leading method of inner development and a teacher of the Diamond Approach. Tune in to hear powerful inner development insights that can support you as an ethical investor or ethical business leader.…
Who's leading and who's lagging behind when it comes to ethical leadership in New Zealand? What’s the state of business ethics in New Zealand, and how this can be raised? As part of celebrating Ethical Investment Week, Money Matters is offering a fascinating interview with Jane Arnott, Director of The Ethics Conversation. We spent an in-depth hour going into detail on our work together for the NZX Corporate Governance Review, Jane’s excellent research report titled ‘Codes vs Commitment: An Assessment of the Codes of Ethics of the NZX50’ and our respective experience over several decades of promoting ethical leadership. Jane’s level of scrutiny will be of great interest to you as a wise investor. Her insights are very eye-opening and I'm grateful for Jane’s time and effort. Jane has also included her full ‘Codes vs Commitment’ report as an additional benefit to everyone who registers to listen to the interview. This means you'll be able to take the time to see all of her insights for yourself. We are also providing a full transcript of the interview and our Ethical Leadership presentation to the NZX.…
