The Braveheart Club #18 Jonathan Safran Foer about climate change
Manage episode 247484265 series 2579225
This is The Braveheart Club, a podcast hosted by writer and researcher Roanne van Voorst, where she invites people who she finds extraordinary brave: activists, artists, innovative thinkers; professional badasses.
Usually, Roanne and her guests talk in Dutch but for this special occasion, she recorded the conversation in English, as she talked with Johnathan Safran Foer – an internationally bestselling author, about his new book.
You’re probably familiar with some of his other fiction and nonfiction books, like Everything is Illuminated, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Eating Animals. This time, Roanne and Jonathan talk about his new, important work: We Are the Weather (In Dutch: Wij zijn het Klimaat, Ambo Anthos), where he explores the central dilemma of our time – climate changes – in a creative, urgent personal way.
You might hear some background music while they are talking; that’s because they met in a hotel lobby in central Amsterdam. Let it not distract you; this man has some important lessons to share, about how to be brave, as a writer, a citizen, a father and a consumer. Let’s go!
- Roanne mentions her own book, Once We Ate Animals, which explores a plantbased future. The English version will be internationally published in 2020. A Dutch version is already published. See roannevanvoorst.com or ooitatenwedieren.nl
