Manage episode 414129152 series 2364700
EMS operations involve more than just ambulances...
Hello Smart Firefighting Community!
Welcome to another episode of covering real world innovations via interviews with fire service and technology industry experts that empower YOU to develop your very own Smart Firefighting strategy!
Welcome to this 20-episode Texas Robotics Summit Mini Series! This 4 day event (March 4-7, 2024) was hosted at the Reveille Peak Ranch and by our friends at Granite Defense, and showcased the use of robotics (air/water/ground) in public safety via keynote presentations, training scenario stations, roundtable conversations, and more.
In this episode:
- How drones supplement public safety efforts
- Daily uses of drones in emergency medical services
- Encouraging EMS departments to adopt drone technology
Learn from Chris Lester - the interim Division Chief and Program Manager of the UAS team of Austin Travis County EMS.
Chris explains that EMS operations go beyond ambulances and encompass various specialty teams and events. The use of drones in EMS started in 2020 with the Spartan program, which aimed to supplement public safety efforts. Drones are used daily for search and rescue, high-angle rescue, swift water rescue, and providing overwatch for community health paramedics. They're also used during large events to monitor crowds and provide real-time information to first responders.
Drones have the potential to save time and deliver life-saving equipment more efficiently, such as blood and Narcan kits. Chris encourages other EMS departments to start small, ask for help, and take action to improve public safety.
