You'll hear about the highs and lows of running a business and celebrate the victories of these inspiring entrepreneurs. https://youtu.be/gRQ_cc9JVv8 https://youtu.be/j0PeLXCXloI Selling Candy and Life Lessons in a Creepy Van No, I made a dollar a box. I mean, this guy, and I don't tell this story often, but his name was Ruby. He had a gray van with no windows, the short Chevy van to the creepy one. That sounds so shady. And my mom, I was like, I swear I was 14 maybe. My mom would let me leave with this guy for four hours a night on school nights. And sell candy. and sell caricatures. I did that for East Abington Little League, a box of 100 back in the late 70s. I would knock on the door back and ride on Abington, dollar a thing for the uniforms, but good for you. Well, you're okay now, so obviously nothing bad happened, but for 14 years old, they probably loved you. They probably bought two candy bars. They must have. I did something right, man, but I was just doing it, right? And thanks for asking, by the way. Share a little bit about me, but that particular part of my life, I never thought it would have the impact that it did. It surprised me later on. In fact, surprised me so much, I just had this epiphany, and then I decided to put it on my LinkedIn as one of my jobs. Season 2 Episode 63: How Letting Go of Negativity Attracts Opportunity In a captivating podcast interview, Richard Blank chronicles his unexpected path from Philadelphia to building a thriving call center in Costa Rica. Fueled by his passion for Spanish, Richard took a leap of faith that led him to a life of adventure. His story reveals the power of following your purpose. https://youtu.be/2aNtJqs6t8E https://youtu.be/zWql-0JcWlE https://youtu.be/aL0YW0k1BEA https://youtu.be/1xzhsVylhWQ Why Costa Rica is a Top Destination I suggest they buy a first-class plane ticket like you did and apply to Costa Rica and come visit me. But if it's plan B, I got an extremely large Facebook fan page, about 111,000 local Costa Rican ticos, and it will give your audience a chance to see the business process outsourcing industry in Central America. Now, for your audience, we're north of Panama, south of Nicaragua. Costa Rica is the only democratic society in Central America. There's no standing army. They put all that money back into education. So there's a 95% literacy rate. Costa Ricans are claimed to have the most neutral English accents. We have companies such as Amazon, HP, Intel, Oracle here because of our infrastructure and our labor force. And finally, we're known for medical tourism and especially ecotourism. You can go to your hot springs and do your zip line and butterfly farms and the most beautiful beaches and surfing in the world. And I've been here for over two decades. My favorite type of people are entrepreneurs and fighters. This podcast will share the stories of these fighters while sharing some valuable content for my listeners. May 25, 2022. 1 Executing the Vision podcast by Brad Hunter. A fun experience in Costa Rica with Richard Blank. 44:28
Living Life with Honorable Intentions: Human Connection in a Technological Landscape with Costa Rica's Call Center's Richard Blank Welcome to 'Executing the Vision,' where we delve into the journeys of owners and C-suite executives of thriving 100+ employee companies. Join us as we uncover the secrets to their success, from the initial spark of inspiration to the realization of their vision. Through insightful interviews, we explore the strategies, challenges, and triumphs they've encountered along the way, offering valuable insights for navigating the intricate landscape of the business world and achieving success not only in business but in life. Tune in to gain practical wisdom and inspiration for your own journey to success. Your host, Brad Hunter, talks with the President and CEO of Costa Rica's Call Center, Richard Blank. Born and raised near Philadelphia, Richard's story began at Abington High School, where he graduated in 1991. Unlike many of his peers who pursued conventional medical, law, or engineering paths, Richard followed his passion for the Spanish language. This decision led him to the University of Arizona, where he majored in Spanish and fully immersed himself in the culture by spending a year abroad in Spain. Richard reminisced about his transformative year, splitting his time between Cadiz, Madrid, and Sevilla. He described it as shedding his skin, a hero's journey that changed him profoundly. Without the distractions of television or phones, he soaked in life through museums, books, and personal interactions. This experience not only solidified his command of the Spanish language but also shaped his worldview and future career trajectory. Richard's life in Costa Rica is where he established a call center that stands out for its operational excellence and vibrant work culture. Richard shared his approach to training and employee engagement, emphasizing the significance of treating his team with dignity. He believes in creating a fun and engaging environment, which includes incorporating his passion for retro arcade games into the workplace. This gamification strategy fosters a sense of community and enjoyment, contributing to employee loyalty and the overall success of the business. THERE WILL COME A TIME WHEN PEOPLE MAY JUDGE AND BELITTLE YOU...BUT NEVER LET THESE PEOPLE PULL YOU DOWN AND STRIP YOUR SPIRIT AWAY FROM REACHING YOUR GOALS. Meet my good friend Richard Blank. He is the CEO of Costa Rica's Call Center, and like you, he also went through judgment, doubts, twists, and turns before he became the man he is today. His story will open your mind to the reality of life, taking a leap of faith in stepping away from your comfort zone and going out of your bubble. AI can sort data and optimize tasks, but can it genuinely empathize? While AI excels in efficiency and analytics, Richard argues it fails to deliver genuine emotional support. Though excellent data, AI technology can't replace human compassion. Real empathy demands a human presence. https://youtu.be/ibDu3jMUZgI https://youtu.be/jxjKxac3vmc Brad Hunter, Executing the Vision, Richard Blank,Costa Rica's Call Center, Outsourcing, Telemarketing Call Centre, BPO, Nearshore Contact Center, Sales, Entrepreneur, B2B, Business, Podcast, Gamification,Leadership, Marketing, CX, Guest, Money, B2C education, BPO trainer, call centre, contact centre, contact center Hosted on Acast. I mean, a lot of my friends have film degrees and never did something with it. I need to go all the way on something. And so my argument to my parents was that my grandparents came from Europe at the turn of the 20th. They learned a second language and started. So allow me to build on this sort of, momentum of our family lineage of taking chances and following through and exploring new things. Financial Insights for Moving Abroad So I'm going to kind of jump back to Costa Rica. So as far as the, like I'm retired military. So if I was to decide to move, I don't know how that would work as far as with retired pay and disability and Was it a big change as far as income-wise, moving from the state to Costa Rica? That's a very good question. How did you adjust that? I was in a very specific circumstances. My company is inscribed in the United States. I'm paying US taxes and I do banking there, but I also have a bona fide residency. So I was tax exempt for well over $100,000. And it's very nice because you have certain business expenses and plus, you know, living abroad, you know, your first hundred grand is tax free. And that's a wonderful thing. And the cost of living here, depending on how you want to live, is about a third of the states. Fortes Fortuna Juvat And I just want your audience to be bold and brave. You know the expression, you know, fortune favors the brave. And if you have a desire and you get these people that give you this reinforcement, you might need to take that chance. Ethical Telemarketing and First Impressions I still find telemarketing is a means to an end, and I think you should gauge the calls you make in regards to ethics. You feel comfortable making the call, or you're being shady, or as you say, just spammy. And so since I'm a guest in a Catholic country, the agents have leveraged it, and I need to make sure that they can go home and tell their parents what they do for a living. But let's be realistic here. You're looking to buy time. You're not gonna get the 10 minutes that Hollywood shows you. There's a lot of gatekeepers out there. So my suggestions for people that are doing, let's just say business-to-business type of phone calls, your first impression should be a company name spike. As much as I want to know how well Ernance CS is doing today, if you answer the call, I'm going to say, hey, Business Bros Podcast, how are you doing today? I'm going to say it better than you do. And so what it's going to do is use my anonymity as good faith. It's almost like a mystery shopper. I've been there before. So these gatekeepers reduce it a little bit. They start asking me my name and politely I will introduce myself, but I'll take it a step further. Introduction to Traditional Marketing's Relevance Boom all right ladies and gentlemen i know we communicate a lot through social media but some of these traditional ways of marketing and getting uh you know your message out like picking up the phone if that sounds interesting to you because there's still money to be made in that industry a lot of it we're going to talk about that on this episode let's get this thing going here we go shut up and sit down look A business can give you everything you want in life, prestige, wealth, freedom. It can also take everything away from you. This show is for those who are willing to take that risk. These are the real-life stories of entrepreneurs. But before we start, I have one small favor to ask. .. https://youtu.be/U7hpx0d0GiI https://youtu.be/jXPstDpwBNc https://youtu.be/afih4W2AG1E Hosted on Acast. Discover the secrets behind CCC's success and the lessons learned along the way. Entrepreneurship: Slaying Dragons and Personal Growth A lot of people will decide to live their own life and not fulfill the lives of others. And so did it break some hearts? I guess. But then again, my friend, We all need to leave our own castles to slay dragons and save princesses. And if someone's holding you back, you're never going to go on a roller coaster and experience life. And so my argument was to live. And I could have always clicked my heels and come home and been in the family business. But I wanted to try. I had some grit. I had some vigor. And I know that at the end of the day, I wanted to look at myself in the mirror and know that I went 15 rounds. That's the kind of forced march that people are on as entrepreneurs. Those are the sort of moments of clarity you have when you ask yourself, do I continue or do I stop? Reinventing Work Relationships: Checkpoints Over Burnout Of course, you had mentioned the six-month mark where people, you know, they fall out of love. I don't believe in that. I believe in checkpoints. I believe in positive reinforcement. Let me give you specifics for my industry because most people don't like telemarketers and I do not think the majority of your audience are CEOs of call centers. They didn't sell their soul like I did for this golden fiddle. So anyway, in my industry, there are certain things that I can do. It's a luxury trade. Besides making or receiving phone calls, these individuals are bilingual, which bears the mark of higher education. The Power of Silence in Communication So you're not going to really know the sound unless you have the silence. And the silence, in my opinion, speaks much more than your tone, your rate, and your pitch, because that is inside of you, right? And so if you're looking for certain tell signs, if people are facetious with you or you need additional clarification, those would be the times, in my opinion, that you should interject and ask for that clarification question because something's just not right. https://youtu.be/reNbjStx784 https://youtube.com/shorts/LhKt4ppKCiM https://youtube.com/shorts/igv8n_PTztk https://youtube.com/shorts/rF3UnvS70bU https://youtube.com/shorts/7OZxs__yvg0 Hosted on Acast. She has an unrelenting passion for learning, constantly seeking new knowledge and getting excited by new discoveries. Originally from Mexico City, Ana now calls Austin, Texas her home. What if you could 4x your lead conversions without changing a thing in your business? That’s exactly what I help businesses do with my Conversational Funnels at Anabots, an AI-powered method that turns every lead into an opportunity, every interaction into a conversion, and every business into a success story. Originally trained as an architect, I now build sales systems that never sleep, never miss a lead, and always show up when your customers are ready to buy. AI isn’t about replacing you or your team; it’s about giving you the tools to work smarter. The best part is that you don’t need to be a tech expert to make it work. Conversational Funnels is simple, effective, and built for business owners who value their time. Beyond building AI strategies, I co-host two podcasts, Basic Business AI and BizHaps, where I break down complex AI strategies into simple terms and highlight real stories from entrepreneurs. I’m always looking for fresh voices, so if you’d like to share your insights or story, let’s talk about having you on as a guest! If you’d like to know about how this could work for your business, let’s chat. Vulnerability and Growth I could have done the easy thing and punked out, but I did the tough thing and just sucked it up. And little did I know that this individual might've been in this situation before, And so they extended some empathy, got out there and pushed with me. And I can also take the jokes and the jabs. That's what it's all about. It only gives you more foundation, more bonding and a funny sort of talk about during cocktails. I knew this in business. If you can make yourself vulnerable, my good friend, Anna, it makes you powerful. And that was one of the days I shed some skin and actually grew as a person. And if you're just looking to connect or explore collaborations, I’d love to hear from you! Bizhaps are quick stories of heroic wins, hilarious losses, and a whole lot of in-between. Anything about the day-to-day grind of aan entrepreneur: employees, customers, or weird situations. Bizhaps can be good, bad, funny, or sad. They can be a big win, a tough loss, or a valuable lesson. They’re short, sweet, to the point, and designed to educate, entertain, or inspire.
