Culturally Informed Autism Evaluation with BIPOC Clients
Manage episode 381045197 series 3519350
Autism identification tends to lag among racially or ethnically minoritized youth. As therapists, we should be diligent and consider nuances when our clients of color may exhibit behaviors that are different compared to a norm that does not fit the child's cultural upbringing. It is important to consider parental involvement and naturalistic observation. Listen to my conversation with Dr. Anitra Quinn, who talks about her experience conducting autism evaluations from a culturally informed lens, as well as her personal experience when going through the evaluation process with her son.
