Tony Hale joins Kyle Meredith to discuss his role in Woman of the Hour, directed by and starring Anna Kendrick in her directorial debut. The film tells the true story of a 1970s dating game show where a contestant’s life intersects with serial killer Rodney Alcala. Hale portrays a fictionalized version of the game show host, reflecting on the cultural detachment and sexism of the era. He praises Kendrick’s direction for not glorifying the killer, focusing instead on the victims’ perspectives. Hale enjoyed working in the '70s setting, humorously noting the “helmet hair” and polyester wardrobe, while admiring Kendrick's ability to balance levity with a dark, intense story. Hale also touches on returning to his beloved roles from Veep and Arrested Development. He recalls slipping back into Gary Walsh for a special Veep reunion, expressing his eagerness to do more, saying the cast would “pounce” at the chance to reunite. Revisiting Buster Bluth for Arrested Development was a challenge after five years away, but it all fell into place once he heard Jessica Walter call his character’s name. Hale also shares excitement for Sketch, a project years in the making, which he describes as Inside Out meets Jurassic Park.
