Delighting in God's Word: Psalm 1:1-3
Manage episode 459582712 series 3596768
Picture a tree planted beside a flowing river. Its roots reach deep into the soil, drawing nourishment every single day. Regardless of droughts or storms, the tree remains unshaken. It thrives, yielding fruit in its time and keeping its leaves green and vibrant. This image from Psalm 1 vividly portrays the life of someone who delights in and meditates on God’s Word. Their stability and fruitfulness are direct results of being continually nourished by the living water of Scripture.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. (Psalm 1:1-3) (ESV)
The passage contrasts two paths in life: the way of the wicked and the way of the righteous. The righteous are deeply connected to God through His Word, and this connection sustains and prospers them.
