Acts 21:1-16 w/ Jack Hester
Manage episode 447269774 series 1539965
Our verse-by-verse study through the book of Acts this week focuses on Acts 21:1-16, but as Teaching Pastor Neal Ledbetter reminds us, "the message Paul received in Acts 20:22-23 and how he responded in verse 24 is important to keep in mind as we study our text this week. In Acts 21:1-16, the disciples receive the same word Paul did in Acts 20:22-23, but they have a different human response to the divine word they received. Their response and Luke's wording Acts 21:4 might be confusing. John Stott summarizes Acts 21:4, saying, “Luke’s statement is a condensed way of saying that the warning was divine while the urging was human. After all, the Spirit’s word to Paul combined the compulsion to go with a warning of the consequences (20:22–23)." Our study and the questions this week will hopefully draw out this tension and our natural response to suffering."
