Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek. 2 He was well spoken of by the brothers at Lystra and Iconium. 3 Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. —Acts 16:1-3

TIMOTHY:

Paul met Timothy on his second missionary journey.

His father was a Greek and mother, Lois, was a Jew.

He had a good reputation.

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,2 To Timothy, my true child in the faith:Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.3 As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, —1 Timothy 1:1-3

He was a disciple of Paul’s.

He was called to lead the church in Ephesus.

5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. —2 Timothy 1:514 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it —2 Timothy 3:14

His faith was sincere.

He was raised to have faith in Christ.

Timothy is to warn the Ephesians:

Against false teachers.

Against idle talk.

Against fine sounding, useless arguments.

8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 9 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. 10 For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. —1 Timothy 4:8-10
