Ep. 101: Faith without Works is Dead w/ Caleb Gautreaux
Manage episode 291049249 series 2308340
In this episode, Dr. McElderry is joined by Caleb Gautreaux, a creative videographer and founder of Journeyman Creative, an all in one media house that specializes in all pre and post-production from photo, video, websites, graphic design, creative consulting, strategizing, and event coverage.
He is also a proud Husband, new dad, and man of God, but it didn't always start this way. Through turmoil, multiple jobs/industries, and self-doubt he leaned on friends, God, family, and overall resilience to find joy, happiness, and fulfilment in life
Where he is now is very far from where he started. Right out of high school he started university to become a nurse anesthetist. He pursued this until pre-recs were completed, but realized he hated what he was doing. Throughout school, he was heavily involved in CrossFit and was on a competition team and never really interested in cameras, but always found himself in front of one. He decided to buy a vlogging set up to document the day and workouts to post to YouTube, but never ended up posting anything. However, along this process is where he fell in love with cameras and telling a story.
He decided to pursue my intrigue while working full time. During his downtime and on lunch breaks he consistently watched YouTube talk about business, lighting, camera lenses….everything; which turned into an immediate investment into camera gear to start working on his craft.
A major contributor to how fast he was able to learn goes to Shoreline City Church and a YouTuber named Peter Mckinnon.
On October 31, 2019, he decided to quit his full-time job to go full-time freelance. In just two months, he was able to make just as much money as he had made in the previous ten months of working at a “Steady Job”.
He has now had the privilege to work with companies such as Toyota, Discover Card, Landcruise. More important than the money, for the first time in my life I was happy. Happy with work, life, relationships, and much more. It has been a major learning curve being self-employed, but has found so much joy in those challenges because it was his own creations.
