Samih al-Qasim: one of the most important contemporary Arab and Palestinian poets. Al-Qasim expressed in his poetry the struggle and suffering of the Palestinians. He was imprisoned more than once, placed under house arrest, fired from his job several times because of his poetic and political activity, and faced more than one death threat at home and abroad. He was the head of several prominent newspapers and the recipient of many international appreciation awards.
