When you encounter an obstacle within a task that you don't particularly enjoy, how motivated are you to push through and keep going? At what point do you give up?
Shandel and Melanie discuss an often misunderstood aspect of Emotional Intelligence - Motivation. This dimension indicates how able we are to move through barriers, even when we are not intrinsically or extrinsically motivated to do so and when our emotions are high. Some may call this grit. The team digs into motivation and provides some tools and ideas to develop this aspect of our EQ.
Our motivation can be highly influenced by those we choose to surround ourselves with so especially when facing hard challenges, its important to seek advice from those who will uplift us and encourage a positive path forward!
All five EQ dimensions (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, social awareness & social regulation) work together and one strong dimension can also compensate for a weaker one. Digging into self-awareness helps us get a better gage on our motivation so we can develop both of these areas.
