Episode 77: Jeremy Caverley GodTel Testimony
Manage episode 357971704 series 2866383
Hello, my name is Jeremy Caverley and I am a former resident of Godtel Ministries. This is my story from the year 2000 at the age of 19.
I am a survivor of domestic violence which led me to become homeless as I had no place to live after my last trip to the emergency room as the result of an assault from my stepdad.
I called a friend Debbie Reed around 3am from the pay phone in the ER lobby. She knew someone who was working in the hospital that night. From the hospital, I left that morning with no sleep and ended up at Gloria Russell Children Ministries and slept on a cot in the back room.
My friend ended up calling Godtel that morning and had me ready to go for intake later that day. After some lunch, I was dropped off and Martin helped me pick through some clothes. I only had the ones on my back.
I had no idea what God was planning yet!
I was at Godtel from January to June. Each month I learned more about God,how to be a man, learned life skills that I lacked because of my current situation.
After, settling in, I learned the rules and got right into washing dishes and cleaning the facility. Later that night, I went to my first Bible study. Each night, we had Bible lessons, which helped me learn and grow and heal with the Lord.
During the week I would head out looking for work and ended up working at Casa Ole. At the same time I was also planning on missionary evangelistic work with plans to head to South Africa and a internship later that year.
Fast forward 23 years to today year 2023:
I am a US Coast Guard veteran, a college graduate from Ohio University with an associate and bachelor degree who was also the Vice President of Student Senate, and President of College Republicans.
Now I live in Columbus, Ohio with my wife, dog , and cat.
We have our own ministry called JMC Ministries.
I recommend to those who are in need of a shelter that they stay at Godtel. Or, finding volunteer work because it made a difference in my life for the long term. Godtel is not a hand out, it is a hand up with Bible studies, life skill training and counseling to prepare a person for the journey back into society.
