#141: Young people are f***ed? (ft. C. Derek Varn)
Manage episode 366043897 series 2661646
Public school teacher and host of the CDerickVarnVlog returns to discuss the Mental Health crisis amongst young students.
We explore issues surrounding social media, the breakdown of community and subsequent rising rates of suicidal ideation in minority groups. We also explore falling literacy rates, choosing “not to compete” & the bitterness of non-competition, and how treating people like they are victims can be dis-empowering.
We discuss some over looked details around school shootings, the falling rates of casual sex & drug taking, and the role screen-mediated interactions have had on social skills and the rise of pathological anxiety.
Part 2 of this conversation is a patron only episode. Become a patron at patreon.com/itsnotjustinyourhead to gain early access to episodes, our discord server, and monthly reading/discussion groups.
