Alissa Everett co-founded Exposing Hope in 2007 to bring awareness to human rights abuses neglected by the mainstream media through photography and to raise funds to support the subjects of her photography. Today, Exposing Hope is building a facility at the sprawling Kakuma refugee settlement in northern Kenya. Kakuma was created in 1992 to take in the so-called Lost Boys of South Sudan and refugees from Ethiopia and Somalia fleeing conflict at home. It is now one of the largest refugee camps in the world, with a population of over 191,000 from 19 different countries, including thousands of school-age children.

About APIF

In May 2019, the International Publishers Association and Dubai Cares had a vision to support publishers across the African continent.

The result was a courageous initiative called the Africa Publishing Innovation Fund- An $800,000 fund to support literacy, book access, indigenous publishing, and library restoration.

This podcast series features the dreamers and free-thinkers who have stepped up in the face of adversity. We'll learn about their ambitious projects and a shared belief— that access to knowledge is an undeniable human right.
