The Northern Ireland conflict between 1969-1998 is euphemistically called The Troubles. However, this belies its importance as the longest continuous-deployment of security forces in British military history and a casualty rate of 3,532 deaths and approximately 50,000 injured.
The Troubles is often mistaken for a religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants, however, at the heart of The Troubles is a violent political debate.
