The IWA Cardiff Media Summit 2021 was a series of four events focusing on the new landscape for media in Wales.
This, the third event in the series, will focus on news in Wales.
Traditional news organisations are finding new ways to deliver content in the face of diminishing revenues and increased competition from online providers. At the same time they are increasingly coming under attack from politicians across the spectrum for perceived bias.
The end result is that trust in the media as a whole has been undermined. Is there a danger that consumers will shop around for a news source which just tells them what they want to hear?
So, how can we support independent and trustworthy news at a national and local level in Wales? Can Wales’ politicians and government be a strong voice within the UK for regulation which protects citizens from disinformation?
Panellists:
Ifan Morgan Jones, Editor, Nation.Cymru
Geraint Evans, News and Current Affairs Commissioner, S4C
Emma Meese, Director of Community Journalism, JOMEC
Sian Powell, Chief Executive, Golwg
