I think it’s fairly common for us to look like mini versions of our moms or the ones who raise us as kids. And it makes sense. In a healthy home environment, you probably idolized your parents or guardians at least for a time. They helped you pick out and buy your clothes. Maybe they chose everything for you. Maybe they forced you to wear things you hated, even if it was just for the annual family holiday photo!

But as we become adults… or defiant teenagers… or highly opinionated preschoolers… and we come into our own sense of style, it can be hard to let go of the opinions of others. You want to be yourself, but maybe you still care what your parents think. It could be even harder if you’ve lost your mom, like our sweet friend, Francesca, who submitted today’s question.

So how can you honor the past, the style of those you still look up to, and be true to yourself? How do you sort out what to keep and what to let go of when you inherit someone else’s wardrobe? And how do you manage it all without grieving all over again?

We have a lot to unpack in this episode. But if you’ve been wrestling with any of these questions, this is a conversation we need to have. So go refill your coffee, get cozy, and let’s figure out how to honor the past and the present so you can move into the next chapter of your life and style journey with confidence, clarity, and peace. It’s time!
