Data is a representation of reality. By controlling data, one can control our understanding of reality, and in the hands of an autocratic regime erasing data is a highly effective tool for erasing dissent. After all, no one can claim the regime is causing problems if no evidence of said problems exists. We are witnessing the full scale dismantling of our science and institutions.
