Mai così poca neve sulle Alpi negli ultimi 600 anni. La neve sta diventando sempre più effimera, nonostante la variabilità tra un inverno e il successivo. Quello che stiamo sperimentando negli ultimi decenni è qualcosa che non si era mai riscontrato da prima della scoperta delle Americhe. In pratica, nell'ultimo secolo la durata del manto nevoso si è accorciata di oltre un mese. È la prima volta che si riescono a ottenere informazioni su un orizzonte temporale così lungo. Come si sia giunti a questi risultati ce lo spiega Michele Brunetti dell'Istituto di scienze dell'atmosfera e del clima del Consiglio nazionale delle ricerche di Bologna.
Pochi sanno che un rilevante quantitativo di anidride carbonica (circa 12 miliardi di quintali di carbonio all'anno, corrispondenti a oltre il 10% del totale) viene emesso in atmosfera dai fiumi, in particolare dai piccoli corsi d'acqua che solcano le zone montane. Uno studio dell'Università di Padova ha mostrato che le stime esistenti dei quantitativi di anidride carbonica rilasciati dai torrenti verso l'atmosfera potrebbero essere largamente sottostimate. Ne parliamo con il primo autore della ricerca Gianluca Botter, docente di idrologia e gestione delle risorse idriche dell'Università di Padova.
