What are things like around here? What did your boss do before they were your boss? Wow did you end up with this job? Why are questions such a big part of This is Strategy? If you had to charge ten times as much as you charge now, what would you do differently? If it had to be free, what would you do differently? Who's it for, and what's it for? What is the change we seek to make? How did you choose the questions for The Strategy Deck? How big is our circle of us? How many people do I care about? Is the change we're making contagious? Are there other ways to gamify the use of questions? Any other thoughts on how questions might be gamified? How do we play games with other people where we're aware of what it would be for them to win and for us to win? What is it that you're challenged by? What is it that you want to share? What are risks worth taking? What are we doing that might not work but that supports our mission? What was the last thing you did that didn't work, and what did we learn from it? What have we done to so delight our core customers that they're telling other people? How has your international circle informed your life of questions? What do I believe that other people don't believe? What do I see that other people don't see? What do I take for granted that other people don't take for granted? What would blank do? What would Bob do? What would Jill do? What would Susan do? What happened to them? What system are they in that made them decide that that was the right thing to do? And then how do we change the system? How given the state of the world, do you manage to continue to care as much as you do? Do you walk to school or take your lunch? If you all can only care if things are going well, then what does that mean about caring? Should I have spent the last 50 years curled up in a ball? How do we go to the foundation and create community action?…

Returning to the Project Veritas/James O'Keefe beat, we had former OMG investigative journalist Kayla Dones on the show. Kayla was the brains behind "A Line in the Sand," now being promoted as "James O'Keefe's new documentary." Kayla describes how she scouted locations, interviewed subjects, organized shoots, and coordinated filming only to be discarded upon completion of the project with. Upon asking to stand with the team at the premiere, James asked her why she was so "obsessed with the spotlight," a bit of projection on his part. We we're also joined by Matthew Tyrmand, former guest/PV board member, and Christian Hartsock, also a former guest and PV journalist. The boys highlighted that Kayla's story is not-unique, and we discussed psychopathy/sociopathy as a possible explanation for JOK3's behavior. This is the first episode featuring my new cohost, JL. JL is a father, veteran, and pet-rescuer. Pardon the mic issues. They'll be fixed in future episodes. Continuing on the same beat from our last episode about the fall of Project Veritas, we spoke with Daniel Robert Strack, the former Executive Director of the investigative journalism organization; Matthew Tyrmand, a former member of its Board of Directors; and former Project Veritas journalist Christian Hartsock. After obtaining some background of who each of these men are and how they became involved, we allowed them to air their grievances regarding what transpired last year. We stayed on this beat because many in the right-wing realm of political and social commentary (of which we intersect) don’t seem interested in hearing any other side to the story besides what Project Veritas founder, James O'Keefe, claims happened last year when he parted ways with the organization. Since we’ve received some backlash for covering this angle and talking to people who tell a different tale than the popular narrative pushed by all of the big name conservative “influencers,” we wanted to speak about this even more and to have conversations on the record with others involved with the story. O’Keefe and the media ignored our previous conversation with former senior creative producer of Project Veritas, Kalen Eriksson, whose testimony we felt was a powerful and balanced account of what occurred. After that was released, O’Keefe insinuated that anyone criticizing him (concurrently with former FBI agent and whistleblower Kyle Seraphin) must be part of a “sophisticated information operation” against him, directing his followers to “take note” of everyone doing so. Well, take note of this. For Episode 123, we were joined by Kalen Eriksson, the founder of TriFilm Pictures and former senior creative producer for Project Veritas. Kalen discusses his career trajectory with us, and how he ended up at one of the most controversial and unique undercover journalistic organizations in American history, working closely with its founder, James O'Keefe. When O'Keefe and the organization parted ways in February 2023, rumors abound of what actually happened and why. This conversation sets the record straight on various claims about what occurred at Project Veritas during Kalen's time there, from both supporters and critics of O'Keefe alike. Accompanying this interview is a cache of "receipts" backing up Kalen's story and analysis of the situation. This release includes relevant internal communications and a 5+ hour audio recording of the 2/6/23 board of directors meeting that sparked O'Keefe's decision to break with Project Veritas. As Kalen reveals, that meeting, the incident which led to it, and everything which followed was the breaking point of a situation that had been building up for several years. The file dump also collects together some of the media coverage and remarks by political/social commentators about what happened (most of whom got the story wrong), as well as some BTS photos and videos of Kalen's time at the organization. For Episode 122, we were joined by Tara Faul and Chelly Bouferrache to discuss the situation on the ground in Portland, Oregon, which they have been documenting for many years as native Oregonians. We discussed their experiences as independent journalists and photographers, including facing threats and being assaulted for holding conservative viewpoints; the political climate; radical activists and criminals; widespread graffiti and human excrement; as well as the homelessness and drug addiction situation, specifically fentanyl. As always, we try and bring a little levity to these incredibly heavy topics. Chelly appeared on Episode 73 a few years ago, so we also recommend watching that conversation for a more in-depth look at her backstory if you haven’t yet, although some of that is covered here again. Phil wrote the book on the subject, "Autoheterosexual: Attracted to Being the Other Sex" available on Amazon. We talk about his experience as an autogynephile, as well as gender ideology in general and the impact it's having on children.
