In this episode, I tackle the myth of the starving artist. To be an artist and be broke are not inherently linked. While this myth of the 'starving artist' is perpetuated as the purest form of artistry in our society, it's not what we, as photographers, should be striving for. In the book, Real Artists Don't Starve, Jeff Goins deconstructs the myth of the starving artist and puts forth a way for artists to thrive. One of the primary examples he uses to show this is the story of Michelangelo, a man who broke the ceiling of wealth accumulation for artists everywhere and amassed a huge fortune during his lifetime. Today, photographers should be looking for ways to create and thrive, instead of struggle and starve.
