Why does God let bad things happen to good people?

Why did God let that person die?

I love God, why am I struggling so badly?

These are the hard questions that we avoid with God until they meet us abruptly in our life. They are questions we need to ask but we aren't sure where to find the answers or maybe be are afraid of finding out the answers. Either way… we need to explore these hard topics as we grow in our faith & confidence in Christ.
My guest on the podcast this week, Pastor Justin Kendrick, gives us strategies from his newest book, How to Quiet a Hurricane: Strategies for Christian Endurance in the Midst of Life's Storms, on how to approach these questions. They are necessary to navigate life's overwhelming, frustrating and inevitable storms. These strategies empower us to move past our fears and anxieties into a life of real and enduring peace!

Justin Kendrick is the author of Bury Your Ordinary and The Sacred Us. He is the lead pastor of Vox Church, which he founded in 2011 with a small group of friends on the doorstep of Yale University. The church has since grown to multiple locations across New England, with the dream of seeing the least-churched region of the US become the most spiritually vibrant place on earth.
Key Takeaways:
- We avoid wrestling with the hard questions of life with God

- Every time we bargain with God we are demanding that God function at the level of our own reason, which is dangerous

- The real roadblock to Christian growth is pride

- Life revolves around God ... not me

- Elevate the promises of God over your own opinions

- The difference between.... God + Me.... God not me.... God then me.... God in me

- The secret to Christian growth is God IN me

- Be a person who prepares for the storm instead of a person who reacts after they’ve been blown over by the storm
